Want your pistol ceakoted but not sure if you can cerakote your polymer lower? You can absolutely get a custom cerakote job done on your polymer pistol frame and CTI would be glad to cerakote for you. Here at CTI we cerakote pistol slides and pistol frames starting at just $60 a piece. Cerakoting polymer compared to your metal slide is the same process with just shorter times, lower psi, and lower temperature to ensure the safety of your polymer frame and still proper technique. So on the first step of degreasing on a polymer frame we only degrease a polymer frame for about 20 minutes in our tank of mean green compared to metal that can be in there for days. Then when we sandblast your polymer frame we lower our psi from 90 which CTI uses for metal to 35psi. And finally the bake out for curing CTi cures metal at 255 degrees for two hours we lower our oven temp to 165 degrees for two hours for polymer frames. Cerakote is an amazing product that offers many benefits and allows to to customize your firearm in many ways at the same time. There are many steps you most do when cerakoting from all the steps when prepping your firearm, to the many steps spraying and post spraying. Today we are gonna talk a little bit about a step that occurs right after you spray your part with cerakote that is as important as any step, but gets overlooked at times. It is the the step we call tacking out. Tacking out or the the technical term is ambient cure is a simple step but can not be overlooked, it is simply letting your part hang at room temperature for 15 minutes after spraying. 15 minutes is kind of a universal time but always check after the 15 minutes you want it to look some what dry if the part still looks very wet simply let it hang for 5-10 more minutes before putting in the oven for final cure. This tacking step, or ambient cure is very important because it allows the solvent in the cerakote to evaporate, so you end up with the proper cure. If this step is not done correctly the solvent gets trapped under the cerakote and then the cerakote doesn't cure right, your finish will have a bubbled look after curing in the oven. It can look like orange peel at times, which also occurs when spraying to heavy. When tacked out correct you will get a good smooth finish that should be very durable.

DIY Firearm Stippling

Custom Tactical Innovations offers many custom options, and custom products. One of the custom services we offer for firearms is stippling. There is a lot that goes into stippling that some people may not realize but will still try to do it on their own to save money, or just because they got the DIYer in them, or have fears of shipping their firearm off. This blog is to give some general advice, and tips to the DIYers. Custom Tactical Innovations would absolutely love to have your business , but we realize that there is always gonna be someone that wants to do it on their own, and us being apart of the 2A community would be happy to help. So first off as simple as it sounds come up with a plan, some kind of design to go off, don't just dive in and start melting plastic. Remember that yes you want a cool custom look, but the main objective to improve your frame for your grip while still maintaining a factory look. We like to do some prep work before we ever start stippling which includes sanding down rough edges and some of the thick factory texture, we use a little rougher sand paper for this. Remember go slow don't hurry you can't put it back once it's gone. So if your thinking of using a dremel you need to have a steady hand and adjustable speed, we highly recommend just using sand paper to be safe. Also just to be safe put some blue tape on the mag and insert it into the gun and leave it in until your done just in case you get a little carried away and get the grip to hot yes it can happen if you are not careful this will help prevent warping. Then we use a very fine finish sand paper on those areas we sanded to give a very smooth clean work surface. At this point we normally trace out a pattern we are gonna follow with a white pencil, unless we are going to just follow the factory lines depends on the project. Now you're ready to stipple having the correct tools is important. Yes investing in the right tools is important, lets face it that goes for every project you start in life you get what you pay for, theirs a reason why custom jobs on anything are not always cheap. Here at Custom Tactical Innovations we use a wood burning pen to do our stippling with specific tips made for firearm stippling , such as a border tip, and different design tips. So once you start stippling at this point here is the secret wait for it.... take your time BE PATIENT! it is custom work not a race sounds simple but I have found people tend to not have patience and can not handle the tediousness of stippling. Turn on your favorite sitcom or podcast for some background noise and embrace the job. I hope this has been helpful for any of those thinking about doing some DIY stippling, whether it has encouraged you to try or made you realize you're better off not too. When choosing a holster for your gun one of the first questions people ask themselves is do they want a kydex or a leather holster. We want to show you the pros and cons of the two. There is really no comparison is the durability between a kydex holster and leather holster, no matter how well made and how beautiful the leather holster may be if you are carrying it regularly it will wear out and once worn out potentially not protect your gun correctly. A kydex holster is not gonna wear out if made correctly and will always provide protection for your firearem. Another advantage to kydex over leather is all the custom options you have with a kydex holster when you buy a custom kydex holster (not some universal fit one). You have so many options to choose from with a kydex holster to truly make it a one of a kind, and fit your body type comfortably while also fitting your exact carrying needs. Some people will say a leather holster is more comfortable to carry but if you get a well made custom kydex holster, and carry it to fit your body and comfort kydex holsters can be very comfortable to carry on top of the superior durability. One of the techniques of cerakote we use here at Custom Tactical Innovations is battle wear. There are many advantages to this technique and we will go over a few of them. First lets state the obvious about the battle wear cerakote it just looks awesome! Battle wear gives you that look of your gun has been put to the test and is still rolling with what ever custom battle wear design you pick. Now some of the more practical advantages to battle wear cerakote is that if you carry the firearm you have cerakoted in battle wear or run it in competitions, something where it will get natural holster wear, once it starts to wear your not gonna really be able to tell, it is going to just blend in with your all ready awesome battle wear design. The next advantage goes hand in hand with the holster wear. The way we do our battle wear cerakote here at Custom Tactical Innovations everything you see on your firearm that you requested be cerakoted in battle wear, whether it be a pistol, shotgun, Ar, or bolt action is 100% covered in cerakote. So as you get some natural wear on your firearm that color underneath let's just say black that is coming through is still cerakote so your not losing your cerakote protection. Our technique here unlike some places that just scratch off some cerakote to give it a worn look, we go the extra step and do two layers. We start with what ever color you want to bleed through and do a full coat, then flash cure it. Next we do a light coat of the main color you want your firearm to be then flash cure it again. Then we get a clean rag and soak it with acetone and start wiping off that top layer on the ridges to let the bottom color bleed through to give it tat natural wear look so you still have all your cerakote coverage. Then the final step is the final bake out at 2 hours. The last advantage I want to talk about with battle wear cerakote is the cost for the extra coverage. Custom Tactical Innovations charges $20 for each additional color on a project so your battle wear will only cost you an extra $20 for an amazing custom look, and extra cerakote protection. We don't believe in over charging our customers for every little thing here at CTI, we want you to be able to get your custom firearm work done at a high quality level and not have to break the bank. We always suggest the battle wear cerakote to our customers for their carry guns because you really do get a lot of bang for your buck with this cerakote option. And your carry gun is going to show signs of wear no matter what finish it is in time. Nothing is 100% bulletproof, but some finishes are tougher then others. Custom Tactical Innovations offerers custom Glock stippling. We offer all the same options on our Glock stippling jobs at no additional charge just as we offer for all our custom stippling jobs. The great thing about Glocks is they are so customizable. With that said we offer a few extra options at a reasonable charge to truly customize your Glock stippling job. The extra options we offer here at CTI on Glock stippling jobs is to do a double undercut on the trigger and finish it with stippling or polish it so you can get up higher on your grip and looks amazing. This service is an additional $25. We also will remove the finger grooves on a Glock gen 3 and gen 4 to give you that nice clean feel and look of a gen 5, this is also an additional charge of $25. The last extra service we offer for our Glock stippling jobs is to remove the hump on your Glock back strap. We have a tool that cuts out the hump and we replace and stipple in a new flat back starp to give you a feel of a polymer 80 or Zev. The only way your cost goes up is if you have a Glock you want stippled and pick a couple of our additional options available for Glocks only. Here at Custom Tactical Innovations we use a wood burning pen with specialized bits for stippling firearms. We offer some different options for our stippling jobs at no additional cost which include a thin border, index points, and trigger guard stipple. We will stipple as much of the frame as you want on your custom stipple job, and as far up the back strap as you want to go. The stippling tips we use at CTI are the pencil tip which is a light to medium texture we suggest this bit for your carry guns. Another stipple tip we use is our circle tip and we can do this tip in a medium to aggressive texture. We also offer our fang tip which can be done in a medium or very aggressive texture. And our last stipple bit is the hive tip which is a very aggressive texture. We believe here at Custom Tactical Innovations that doing the proper prep work before we start stippling is as important to get the desired results as the stippling itself. So we start off by doing a rough sand to get the stock texture off, then do a finish sand to get the grip as smooth as possible for a good smooth level work surface while we stipple.
